Former breeder of tussocky marshy meadows, wet alkali meadows and sedge meadows of the Hortobágy. First breeding was documented in 1972, the number of singing males reached 600–700 by the early 2000s, then the population collapsed, and there is no record from the former breeding area since 2012. There are five records from areas outside the Hortobágy since 1993.
