Widespread and very common breeder, one of the most nu- merous birds of Hungary. Prefers open habitats. Breeds in human settlements, mainly suburban areas (avoiding down- towns), villages, and farms but also in agricultural areas if there are suitable trees or buildings for nesting. The breeding popu- lation moderately increased (1.2 ± 0.8%, p<0.05) between 1999 and 2018, whilst the wintering population moderately declined (?3.0 ± 1.8%, p<0.05) between 2000 and 2018.
