Common breeder throughout the country. Since its first breedings in the 1920s, it became one of Hungary’s most widespread bird species. Prefers artificial habitats, breeds mainly in human settlements, cities, villages, around farmhouses. The breeding population moderately increased (2.3±0.9%, p<0.01) between 1999 and 2018. The wintering population also increased moderately (2000–2018: 5.6 ± 2.9%, p<0.05).
